Note: Please read all instructions until you feel comfortable and everything is clear.
These installation instructions assume you have some electronics knowledge. If you have installed a car radio, amplifier, or a car alarm before this should be a easy job for you. If you are not comfortable with the procedures explained below, we recommend you find a qualified individual to help you with the installation.
These installation instructions also assume you have already installed a Turbo Timer in your car. If for any reason you decide to install a Turbo Timer and the Turbo Timer COMPANION Lite together, we recommend you install the turbo timer first in order to check that
it's working properly and then proceed to install the Turbo Timer COMPANION Lite. This way in case you encounter a problem you will know which
device is having the trouble.
Using this DIY below will help make the installation much easier. MAKE SURE to ALWAYS review the instructions first in order to check for different color wires the COMPANION Lite may use or for any additional info on the installation procedure. ALWAYS test the wires and NEVER rely
solely on the instructions. Use this DYI as a guide ONLY.

Turbo Timer COMPANION Lite Wiring Diagram
Install Procedure:
Step 1:
- The first remove the fuse panel cover on the driver's side of the vehicle.
- Next remove the 8mm bolt on the side of the panel.
- Next unscrew the two 8mm screws under the kick panel - under the steering wheel
- After the bottom two screws are out, pull the panel at the upper trim to disconnect it.
- Lower the panel to the floor, and disconnect the OBDII connection and the floor light. Remove the kick panel.
Step 2: Wire Connection Section
**Note: Constant 12V, switched 12V and ground wires from the Companion Lite can be spliced into the Turbo Timer connections. ** Remember once you have all your source wires,
disconnect the battery before soldering any connections.
- Locate the 12 V switched wire ( it is the thick black wire on the left side of the steering column) >> Show here in the picture <<
Note: You should use your multimeter or voltage tester to confirm that you will find the proper wire. It should have 0 V when the key is off, and 12 V when the key is in run/acc.
- Remove the insulation cover off the wire harness. Remove part of the wire insulation, connect Companion Yellow wire. Solder and tape connection so that you will not have any false contacts.
- Once you have connected the Companion Yellow wire, connect the Companion RED
wire to a constant 12V source. Under the kick panel you will find a terminal block, this is where I tapped into for my 12V
constant source, as you can see in the picture. I install a crimp on loop connector and with 10mm socket removed the nut and install wire.
- Next connect the Companion Black wire, which can be connected to any ground source. If connecting the ground to the frame of the car, make sure to sand the area to insure good contact.
Step 3: Door Panel Removal Section
- In order to connect The Companion BLUE wire, the driver's door panel must be removed. A panel remover would
make the job easier. First remove the trim below the door handle.
- Under the cover you will find two Phillips screws - remove them. Next at the
bottom of the door panel is a single Phillips screw - remove it.
- Use your panel removal tool to remove the door trim. Note, after you pop the front side off (shown top left), you have to work your way down to the back side of the trim. To remove the very last clip you have to slide the trim piece toward the front of the vehicle. DO NOT pop it with the panel tool - you will brake it.
- After the trim is off, remove the screws below it. With the trim and screws removed, you can start to lift the upper panel as shown to the right. I was not able to completely remove this upper panel, but I was able to lift it as you see here
- The Bentley manual indicated an additional step/clip to remove which I could not locate. At this point I just gave the door panel a slight tug from the handle and it came right off.
Step 4: Routing the Companion BLUE Wire Section
- In order to get the Companion BLUE wire though the kick panel, you would have to run a fish tape or coat hanger from the passenger compartment out through the panel. Remove the rubber boot and guiding the metal coat hanger through the boot. In the picture above, you can see the Companion BLUE wire already ran.
- In order to get the wire out of the car, you have to run the wire under the connector on the vehicle side of the harness. It will most likely be easiest to remove the connector. To remove the connector do the following:
- Slide the purple/pink tab towards you
- Push down on the black tab at the top of the connector
- Push the connector in towards the car. After the connector is pushed through, grab it
and pull it inside the car.
- In order to grab the connector from inside the car, you have to remove the lowest trim piece under the fuse panel. There are two pieces of trim that need to be removed. Next to the fuse panel you will have to pull the small trim piece.
Pull on the top and bottom to remove it. After the small trim piece is off, pull off the lower trim piece
as shown above.
- Next look behind the hood release for a piece of foam to remove.
It is right behind the trim pieces you just pulled out. In these pictures the
Companion BLUE wire has already been run, but you
get the idea. Remove the foam and you can access the connector from the inside.
Once you pull the connector out, you can push the Companion
BLUE wire through as shown above.
- After you push the Companion BLUE wire past the connector, attach it to the coat hanger and pull it through the rubber boot.
Next you have to get the wire into the door. To make it easier, pull down the foam on the door and remove the plastic cover shown
above.
- With that trim piece removed you can reach in the door and pull the
Companion BLUE wire through the door. Route it just below the controller to the left of the speaker, as shown above.
Step 5: Testing for the Companion BLUE Wire Section
Now that we have the door panel and interior panels removed, we will locate the proper wires to use with the COMPANION Lite® unit. Cut away a few inches of the wiring harness sheathing so you have access to the wires inside.
First locate the door LOCK wire in the harness on the door. If your not sure of the wire or you think you have the correct one, execute
the "Door Lock Test" to insure you have the right wire.
Making sure you have the right wire this will ensure you do not damage the COMPANION Lite® unit and void the warranty.
Note 1:
Before you can perform the following tests, you must close the door lock mechanism. To close the mechanism, insert a panel removal tool or screwdriver into the mechanism push the latch back until it clicks into place. Once this is closed, the car will think the door is closed allowing you to lock the doors to perform the test. To open the door lock
mechanism, simply open the door handle from the inside. If you do not open the mechanism, and try to close your door, you may damage the locking mechanism.
Note 2:
To find the LOCK wire, you must find the wire harness located in the door. You have to brake the
Insulating tape of the harness to locate and test the LOCK wire.
Here is a pic of the wire harness that you will find below the window motor.
* Please Perform Door Lock Test
DOOR LOCK TEST >> To search or to make sure you have found
the correct door LOCK wire, connect the 12V circuit tester to ground or a 3 or 5 amp fused wire to ground should work as well. Quick taps on the lock wire should lockdoor. If you hold the connection, the windows should roll up. If the doors lock and the windows go up then you found the correct LOCK wire. If for any reason
the fuse blows, this means that it is not the correct wire you need. Take another 3 or 5 amp fuse and look for another wire until you find the correct one.

Step 6: Connecting the Companion BLUE Wire Section
*Please Do Not rely solely on wire colors, always test them before connecting anything. Perform the "Door Lock" test procedure to verify your findings.
- Remove the harness shown here to access the door lock wire. The wire we are
going to tap is located on one of the connectors at the controller mounted above
the speaker. When you remove the cloth tape wrap, you will find a wire that is * BLUE with a
WHITE
stripe.
This is the wire you need to tap into. Strip the wire insulation so that you can
splice the Companion BLUE wire together.
- Connect the Companion BLUE wire with the * BLUE wire with a
WHITE stripe, soldered and tape connections.
After you have connected the Companion BLUE wire, the only thing
left to do is mount the Turbo Timer Companion Lite.
- On the left is a picture of the TTCL, on the right is a picture of where it is mounted. It was mounted to be within reach with little effort, incase the you would like to select window close feature.
Double sided taped it to the back of the fuse panel.
- Unfortunately this picture is terrible quality, but you can still get the idea. If you remove the fuse panel cover, you can look in and see the switch to switch between the two TTCL functions.
When all connections to the TTCL are made, reconnect the battery and test it. Once everything checks out, put the door panel back together (make sure all the grommets are in place). Put the kick panel back together, key the vehicle up and enjoy your new Turbo Timer and Turbo Timer Companion Lite combination.
